# How to warm up a LinkedIn account for outreach

A day-by-day LinkedIn warm-up schedule for a new or dormant account, the maturity thresholds that unlock higher volume, and how to recover an account after a soft lock.

By Devansh Ranjan · Published Aug 7, 2026

**Short answer:** start at **5 connection requests per day** and climb by 1–2 per day across **12 active days** to a plateau of about **20 per day**. An account becomes “established” at **14 days and 50 actions**, and “mature” at **90 days and 400 actions**.

Warm-up is not superstition. LinkedIn scores accounts on behavioural consistency, and the fastest way to lose a seat is to open at full volume on day one. The ramp below is what [Sumora](/) applies automatically to every newly connected account.

## Maturity thresholds that unlock volume

Warm-up governs the _daily_ cap. A second, weekly ceiling is governed by maturity, which is computed from account age and completed actions together — not age alone. An account that is 100 days old but has done 12 things is still treated as new.

## Send only during human hours

Timing is a signal in its own right. Restrict all activity to **08:00–20:00 local time, Monday to Friday**, and vary the gaps between actions. An account sending at precise intervals, or at 3am on a Sunday, is identifiable as automated regardless of how conservative the volume is.

## Recovering from a soft lock

A soft lock is a warning, not a death sentence — but it is only survivable if you change behaviour. Stop all activity, complete whatever verification LinkedIn requests, wait several days, then restart at the **day-1 ramp**. Resuming at the previous volume is what converts a recoverable lock into a permanent restriction.

Full daily and weekly ceilings are in the [LinkedIn limits guide](/guides/linkedin-connection-request-limits). Instagram warms differently and more slowly — see [Instagram DM limits](/guides/instagram-dm-limits).

## Step by step

1. **Complete the profile first.** Fill out photo, headline, about, and experience before sending anything. An incomplete profile lowers acceptance rate, and acceptance rate directly affects how much volume the account can sustain.
2. **Days 1-3: engage only.** Send 5 to 7 connection requests per day and spend the rest of the time liking and commenting. Do not send direct messages yet.
3. **Days 4-7: add light messaging.** Increase to 8-11 invites per day and begin messaging first-degree connections, staying under 5-10 messages per day.
4. **Days 8-12: climb to plateau.** Step invites from 12 to 20 per day. Keep pending invitations low by withdrawing unaccepted requests older than about three weeks.
5. **Day 13 onward: hold the plateau.** Hold at roughly 20 invites per day on a free seat or 35 on Premium. Do not exceed the plateau — additional volume must come from additional warmed seats.
6. **Monitor acceptance rate.** If acceptance drops below roughly 20 percent, reduce volume and improve targeting before resuming. Low acceptance is the leading indicator of a restriction.

## Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to warm up a LinkedIn account?

About 12 active days to reach the daily plateau, and 14 days plus 50 completed actions before the account is treated as established and earns a higher weekly ceiling. Full maturity, which unlocks the highest ceilings, takes 90 days and roughly 400 actions.

Do I need to warm up an old LinkedIn account?

Yes, if it has been dormant. An established account that suddenly starts sending at volume looks the same to LinkedIn as a brand new one. Restart the ramp, though a genuinely aged account with real history can usually climb faster.

What do I do after a LinkedIn soft lock?

Stop all automated activity immediately, complete any verification LinkedIn asks for, then leave the account idle for several days. Resume at the day-1 ramp of about 5 invites per day, not at the volume you were running. Repeating the previous volume is what converts a soft lock into a permanent restriction.
